Location: Working flexibly 2-3 days per week from Public Hall, a riverside co-working space in Whitehall
Contract: Permanent, full-time

Summary

This is a great opportunity for a candidate who is good with people, high energy, driven by hitting targets, data literate and interested in current affairs to join a thriving digital scale-up. The job is to manage and nurture customers of Tussell, to help them reach their business goals and therefore renew their subscription with us. It’s a client-facing role which requires professionalism, responsiveness, flair, and attention to detail. You can expect to be trained in customer support and client relationship-building, to join a small and dynamic team, to experience first-hand how a successful start-up is scaled, and to do a job where you can have a real impact.

The role offers annual basic salary of £27,500 in Year 1 with annual comp reviews and variable sales commission once you start looking after your own accounts.

Company

Tussell has become the trusted source of insight into UK government procurement contracts, a market worth over £180Bn in 2021 (about 10% of UK GDP). In a climate of almost unprecedented government spending, our market intelligence helps companies to win more public contracts by being informed and proactive. The data transparency that we foster also allows the media to hold the government to account and helps to make the market for public contracts more open and competitive - ultimately improving the delivery of public services.

The company is founder-led and investor-backed. Spurred on by the growth in public contracts as the state expands, Tussell is doubling in size annually. Our reputation is growing all the time: in 2022 our data was used over 260 times in the national, regional and trade press– underlining both the political and economic resonance of public contracts as well our position as the market’s reference data source.

Role

We are looking for a Product Specialist within the Account Management function. You will report into Tussell’s Key Account Manager who will be responsible for your day-to-day management and professional development:

  • Goal: To help us nurture our rapidly growing roster of subscription customers. We want our clients to make consistent use of our product and to have regular, quality engagement with us.

  • Responsibilities: Initially you will support our existing Account Management team to train new customers and nurture their adoption of our product. After two months, the expectation is that you will become fully client-facing with responsibility for your own group of clients.

  • Success measures: Initially your success will be measured by the amount of time you can free up among your Account Management colleagues, so that they can spend less time on support tasks and more time being client-facing. Following this, your success will be determined on the rates of renewal and revenue growth within the account.

  • Outcome: High rates of customer satisfaction that translate into high rates of contract renewal. We would like our clients to think of us as essential to their commercial success in the public sector.

Our ideal candidate

Naturally outgoing and energetic, you will be well organised, adept at prioritising your work and enjoy getting stuff done. You will be data literate and not fazed by using Excel. You will also be highly engaged with current affairs and enjoy thinking of how the economic or political news of the day could link to our product or be a trigger for client engagement. Being responsive and good with people is essential, but so is being conscientious and having good attention to detail. You will be a good listener and open to learning through feedback.

Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree or previous work experience of sales or account management.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Interest in current affairs.

  • Interest in business and commercial acumen.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Competent knowledge of Excel.

  • High-energy, embodies customer centricity and deals well under pressure.

Desirable

  • Previous work experience of sales, account management or marketing, especially in a B2B environment and/or work experience with or in the public sector.

  • Entrepreneurial attitude.

  • Experience of CRM software.

Tussell’s culture

The ability to learn fast, desire to get stuck in, and capacity to originate your own ideas soon after joining are part of Tussell’s culture. Here are a few other qualities we value. You will:

  • Be protective of Tussell’s carefully-built reputation for data quality. We’re seen as a reference source – so attention to detail matters.

  • Be flexible and resilient – we’re a fast-paced start-up and sometimes you will need the ability to stay calm under pressure/urgency.

  • Seek constructive feedback – nobody’s perfect, but it’s good to learn from mistakes.

  • Have a sense of accountability – if you told someone you’re going to do it, do it. But don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

  • Be empathic, easy-going and enjoy working in a team – we’re a small, tight-knit team where everybody’s contribution matters, and we help each other.

Compensation

The role offers annual basic salary of £27,500 in Year 1 with annual comp reviews and variable uncapped sales commission for payment by results once you start looking after your own accounts.

Benefits & perks

  • Annual leave of 25 days (not including public holidays), rising by one day per year of service (up to a cap of 30 days)

  • Hybrid and flexible working options

  • A vibrant office in Whitehall with free weekly perks like yoga classes, extensive breakfast and Thursday office drinks, alongside other seasonal events

  • An annual personal learning & development budget of £1,000 for your professional development and ongoing learning (prorated)
