This short report looks at central government spend with UK vs. non-UK IT suppliers between 2018 and 2019.
With the government looking to stimulate the economy following the coronavirus pandemic, a recent article by UKCloud Chief Executive, Simon Hansford, on politics.co.uk explored the use of British IT businesses vs. those based overseas, turning to Tussell for insight on the topic.
Our data shows a reduction in spending with non-UK businesses from 47% in 2018 down to 38% in 2019, with Japanese, American and French companies making up the top five places.
Although overall spending dropped, the impact on UK suppliers was minimal as they received a larger share of the total.

UK government IT spend: UK vs non-UK suppliers
Last year 38% of Central Gov't spending on IT companies was with firms based outside of the UK, down from nearly 50% in 2018.
This analysis is based on either the country the supplier is registered in, or if we hold the data for it, the country in which the supplier's ultimate owner is registered.

Japanese tech firm Fujitsu was the top earning non-UK IT firm last year, followed by French firm Atos and US firms IBM and CSC.
