What is Tussell?

What is Tussell?

Tussell is a UK public sector market intelligence platform for suppliers to government.

The platform brings together procurement, contract, spend, framework, opportunity and buyer intelligence to help public sector sales, business development and account management teams understand their market and identify where to focus commercial effort.

How does the Tussell platform work?

Tussell collects, standardises, cleans and enriches data from across the UK public procurement lifecycle.

The platform connects information on future buying signals, tenders, contract awards, frameworks, public sector spend and key decision-maker contact details, allowing suppliers to analyse what government buys, which organisations are buying it, which suppliers are winning work and where future opportunities may arise.

Who uses the Tussell platform?

Tussell is used by a range of government suppliers across all sectors: from up-and-coming SMEs, to two-thirds of the UK Government's 'Strategic Suppliers'.

Tussell is also used by the government itself - including the Cabinet Office, Government Commercial Agency and National Audit Office - to verify its own procurement. It's also the media's first source of insight when reporting on public procurement, with over 380 press citations in 2024 alone.

What data does Tussell cover?

What data does Tussell provide?

The Tussell platform includes data from across the full public procurement cycle. This includes:

These datasets are connected within the Tussell platform so users can analyse buyers, suppliers, markets and opportunities in context rather than as separate sources.

Which public sector markets does Tussell cover?

Tussell covers procurement activity across the UK public sector, including Central Government, Local Government, the NHS, blue-light services, education and transport.

Coverage extends across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, although the availability of individual datasets varies because procurement publication requirements differ between authorities and devolved nations.

Tussell does not currently provide equivalent procurement coverage for the Republic of Ireland, the EU or other international markets.

Does Tussell only aggregate open procurement data?

No. Tussell uses open public procurement data as an important input, but the platform does more than aggregate published records.

Tussell cleans, de-duplicates, standardises and enriches procurement data, resolves inconsistencies between sources and adds additional information to make the resulting dataset suitable for commercial analysis.

This produces a connected view of UK public procurement that is designed for analysing markets, suppliers, buyers and opportunities rather than simply searching individual tender portals or notices.

Does Tussell show opportunities before they go to market?

Yes. Tussell's Early Opportunities intelligence identifies signals of potential public sector buying activity before a formal tender is published. These signals can help suppliers identify future demand earlier and engage with relevant buyers before procurement reaches the tender stage.

Does Tussell include public sector spend data?

Yes. Tussell includes public sector spend and invoice data, allowing users to analyse what authorities are spending their procurement budgets on, how much is being spent directly with different suppliers, and how this has changed over time.

Does Tussell include Framework call-off & Lot data?

Yes. Tussell includes public sector framework information, call-off and Lot usage data, helping suppliers identify relevant frameworks, understand which suppliers are winning work through them, and which specific Lots are seeing the most usage on a framework.

Does Tussell provide public sector decision-maker contact details?

Yes. Tussell provides contact information for relevant public sector decision-makers alongside procurement intelligence, helping suppliers identify and reach out to the people associated with target organisations and procurements.

Does Tussell offer an API?

Yes. Tussell offers API access for organisations that want to use Tussell data outside the core platform. The API can be used to integrate Tussell's procurement intelligence into internal CRMs, data analysis tools and AI workflows.

What is Tussell used for?

What is Tussell used for?

Tussell can be used for public sector market analysis, opportunity identification, account planning, competitor analysis, framework analysis, sales targeting and go-to-market strategy. Suppliers use Tussell to understand where government spends money, identify which organisations are likely to buy, see which competitors hold existing contracts and spot potential opportunities before tender.

Is Tussell a tender portal?

No. Tussell includes tender information, but it is a public sector market intelligence platform rather than simply a tender portal. It combines tender data with pre-tender signals, contract awards, frameworks, spend and buyer intelligence so suppliers can analyse the wider market around an opportunity.

Can Tussell help me find & win public sector contracts?

Yes. Tussell's arms public sector sales, bids and business development teams with the intelligence they need to:

  • Identify procurement opportunities before they officially go to market

  • Generate a pipeline of soon-to-renew target contracts in your market

  • Spot high-spending or high-priority accounts in your sector

  • Bid / no-bid opportunities with greater market context (including on incumbent suppliers, past pricing, routes-to-market, etc.)

  • Track new tenders from hundreds of different portals, as they are published

Which job roles use Tussell?

Tussell is primarily used by public sector go-to-market, sales, business development, account management, marketing, bid management and research teams.

Different teams use the same underlying procurement intelligence for different purposes, including market analysis, account planning, opportunity identification, competitor analysis and sales strategy.

What type of organisation gets the most value from Tussell?

Tussell is primarily designed for established suppliers to the UK public sector that want to use procurement data to inform their go-to-market, sales, business development and account management strategy.

Organisations with the resources to analyse markets, prioritise accounts and act on procurement intelligence typically gain the greatest value from the platform.

Tussell is particularly suited to suppliers that want to identify opportunities before tender, understand existing customer and competitor relationships, and take a more proactive approach to public sector growth.

Who is Tussell not designed for?

Tussell is less suited to organisations that are new to public sector selling and primarily need a basic tender-alerting service.

Although Tussell includes tender monitoring, the platform is designed primarily for organisations that want to analyse procurement markets and identify opportunities before and beyond the tender stage.

Tussell does not provide bid-writing services, framework application support, procurement consultancy or legal advice.

How does Tussell compare to other providers?

How is Tussell different from free public procurement portals? (e.g. Find a Tender, Contracts Finder)

Free procurement portals are primarily designed to publish and provide access to individual public procurement notices.

Tussell combines information from across the procurement lifecycle and hundreds of different sources & portals - including early buying signals, tenders, contract awards, frameworks and spend - and connects that information into a single dataset for commercial analysis.

Tussell also cleans, standardises, de-duplicates and enriches procurement records so suppliers can analyse buyers, competitors, markets and opportunities without having to combine multiple raw public datasets themselves.

How does Tussell compare to other paid providers?

Tender-alerting and bid-management platforms typically focus on finding published opportunities or managing the process of responding to them.

Tussell is primarily a market intelligence platform. Its focus is on the depth, quality and connectivity of public procurement data, allowing suppliers to understand markets, identify opportunities earlier, analyse competitors and customers, and prioritise where to focus commercial resources.

Businesses primarily looking for tender alerts or bid-workflow software may therefore have different requirements from organisations using Tussell for public sector market intelligence.

Why would I choose Tussell over another provider?

If your business needs high-quality, trusted data to underpin its public sector BD, sales and account strategy, Tussell is designed for you.

If you’re primarily looking for a basic tender alerting tool or a system to manage bid workflows, Tussell is unlikely to be the right fit.

How much does Tussell cost?

Is Tussell free?

No. Tussell is a paid subscription platform for organisations selling to or analysing the UK public sector.

How do I access the Tussell platform?

Tussell is accessible via a paid annual subscription. Once your organisation has signed up, we'll distribute non-shareable logins to your number of purchased users.

What is included in each Tussell subscription Tier?

Tussell offers three subscription tiers: Starter, Plus and Pro.

The Tiers differ in three main aspects:

  • Your annual number of guaranteed Account Management support hours

  • Your annual number of FOI requests (which we submit on your behalf)

  • Bundled-in access to Tussell's Premium Add-ons (including Unlimited Key Decision Maker Credits, full Early Opportunities access, and our API).

For a more granular breakdown, head to our Plans page.

How much does each Tussell Tier cost annually?

Tussell's pricing varies depending on your business' size, your subscription length, chosen Tier, and your chosen Premium Add-ons.

Tussell is positioned as a public sector market intelligence platform rather than a basic tender-monitoring service, so its pricing is generally higher than entry-level tender-alerting tools.

A specific price is provided following a discussion with the Tussell sales team about the organisation's requirements. Click here to book in a call with the team.
